Smile of the Ars Notoria #01 — Tea Party Purgatory
July 6th, 2022
Are we really doing this?
Impressions:
Man, I thought things couldn't get more excrutiating than the previous show, and here comes this one. I haven't even yet gotten to either of the two cheat power reincarnation shows today yet either. I guess the music is slightly less obnoxious, but the characters and conversation have taken on the quality of the sound of rubbing balloons and somehow become a million times more banal. I don't know about the rest of you, but when I went to school, I would regularly have conversations with my peers at lunch about how we were going to school, and that school is a place to learn things. That's not insane at all.
This is ostensibly a show about girls going to magic school to fight vampires or something. At the very least, fight dudes in opera clothes. It advertises that in the OP. The end of the episode is a cutaway to a foppish dandy burning a city to the ground and bloodily slaughtering some old man clutching a book. But the other eighteen damn minutes of the episode are a tea party. A single god forsaken tea party. Where their conversation went from reminding each other that they're students to shrieking about wanting to go to tourist attractions for fun. This episode didn't need to exist, period. The OP and the final thirty seconds were the only parts that weren't trite dog butt.

I honestly thought the last couple minutes were from a totally different show. Talk about tonally inconsistent.
