Our Last Crusade #09 — Continued Monologues
December 2nd, 2020
And now we stand and explain our powers and motivations to each other.
Impressions:
Really? Both of them spend about half the episode explaining their powers to each other, he counters literally one attack, and then the baddie just hops off a cliff into a pit. The end. Of all the things that they could have used this arc for, that's what they chose to put their effort towards. They could have grown either Iska or Rin's characters by either one acknowledging that the other was important to Tits McGee and therefore them too or at the very least could have put together an actual goddamned action scene but they instead chose to pose and monologue.
And that's where the dramatic elements of this show are just goddamned falling apart. I can enjoy romance, but I admit that I particularly veer towards preferring the kind of Gomez-Morticia "everything in the world is better with you in my life" variety that shows like Futakoi Alternative or SeiZon pulled off with such grace. In this show, Iska barely has a personality at all and walks away from his supposed star-crossed love off to his other harem without a second thought. Alice isn't much better than that. She just blushes more. They've had multiple opportunities to develop at least her little crush (because let's face it, he's incapable of emotion) into that, but we're still stuck at the starting gate and apparently going to pure T&A to close out the season.
