Warring Era BASARA #03 — Everything’s Better with Monkeys
April 15th, 2009
Why is the guy with a monkey such a cockblocker?
Impressions:
Well, it started out well, with Matsu chasing Keiji (her nephew) around violently, including summoning a raging boar onto a roof and then accidentally bludgeoning her mostly naked husband with a bear. I really could have done without the up-crotch shot of him squirming around in his underwear. After that, we had another 5 minutes or so of Kenshin’s inanely boring exposition hour. I got a chuckle out of Keiji making fun of Kasuga’s orgasmings, but that was about the only interesting thing during that whole exchange. It’s hard for me to pay attention to this show when they’re rambling on about feudal times instead of busting heads.
Unfortunately, unless you count Shingen punching Yukimura a few times, that was really all the action in the episode until the last five minutes. The Keiji/Masamune fight was okay, but really paled in comparison to the last two episodes, and featured only one crazy ver the top thing when Masamune leaped into the air and summoned his five other swords as bolts of lightning. It was also interrupted by cutting away to more Kasuga whininess. Speaking of which, Koyasu as Sarutobi hitting on Kasuga still makes me chuckle. I’ve really developed an appreciation for him as of late.
Hopefully we’ll get back to getting guns on and gravity defying horses and whatnot next week.

Even feudal lords need a break every now and then.
