Interspecies Reviewers #01 — That’s What She Said

What ever happened to the Japanese comedy?
Impressions:
It seems that each episode is going to be split into three bits. The first bit was elves, with the joke being done to absolute death being "they look young, but they're actually super old." And… that's it. Not even anything about all the diseases they must have? Throwing a hotdog down a hallway? Nothing? Oh, we're talking about how their mana and smell are stale. Yeah, uh, okay. The second part was a character introduction, and I really, really could have done without a closeup of a penis. Apparently the English simulcast had that censored. You're lucky. The last segment seemed to be setting up what the show is going to be going forward, which is to say being the personification of "That's what she said." Or more precisely, "If you know what I mean." Harpies are like birds, so let's read off some facts about birds while wiggling our eyebrows suggestively over some cheesecake shots.
Now, granted, that's closer to a joke than a lot of Japanese comedies are coming these days, but it wasn't enough to carry one episode, and I don't know how it could carry a whole season. At least there's some T&A to look at while it's reading off… the list of why birds make good pets? There's so much more you could do with sex, or fun facts about animals. I'm no stranger to the Oglaf, and this is a pale imitation at best, with each joke stretched out over eight minutes.

It is interesting that apparently multiple japanese comic writers are familiar with oglaf even if they claim not to be, or not speak any English at all – but they definitely are.
