Circlet Princess #01 — Where Everything is Made Up

And the points don't matter.

Impressions:

I struggled to make it through this episode, so to answer the core question of whether or not it overcomes its original sin of being an action show where there's nothing at stake and everything is completely arbitrary, the answer is a resounding no. I think the thing that got my goat the most is just how nonsensically stupid it is. Our protagonist merrily trots through Super City One, oohs and aahs over the ginormous display taking up an entire city block, and just happens to also run into that person who's an ultra mega star. Except our protagonist has no idea what any of it is and hasn't even heard of Circlet Bout. Yada yada, turns out she's an idiot savant at it, able to go toe to toe with the best of the best, so it's off to a special Circlet School, run apparently by a bunch of other airheaded teenagers, half of which are super geniuses. Remember Keijo? It made more sense and had more of a grounding in logic than this does.

The bigger sin besides being stupid is that it's just plain boring. The fight should be the highlight, but it's just people bonking their weapons against the other person's weapon and occasionally looking shocked or declaring that they're going to bonk for real this time. Eventually, one powers up I guess, judging by how her weapon starts glowing, whereupon they go to a commercial. When we come back, we've decided that wasn't worth our time so now we're back to roaming the streets and shower stalls where girls are being constantly molested, either by cameras or the roaming packs of robots. Again, I'm sure I'm making it sound more exciting than it actually was, because roming packs of rapist robots would likely be a step up for this show. It'd at least add something approaching a plot.

Based on a recent browser gacha game of the same name. Not a particularly interesting game, though.
