Sisters of Wellber #1

April 3rd, 2007

Wow… this was like Ghost in the Shell would be like if you replaced everything that made Ghost in the Shell great with terrible RPG cliches, right down to the cheesy battle themes, robot steamroller, and annoying fairy sidekick.

I guess it was a pretty decent first episode, but from the promo videos released, I was expecting a lot more seriousness and a lot less total cheeseball. There was some gritty stuff, like the Prince’s murder, but for the most part, it was bright, colorful, and totally ripped from Dragon Quest XXII or your favorite non-existent RPG of choice.

Animation was well enough done, though the CG tachikoma-bulldozer wasn’t integrated nearly as well as the actual tachikoma were. The music was also pretty good, though I’m not certain that’s the actual OP since a lot of it seemed to be clips and the sponsor message had a different theme playing.

I guess it was good, but it was not what I was expecting at all. Don’t come into this thinking you’re getting into a show done by the GitS staff. Come into this thinking you’re getting an RPG adaptation and your expectations will be set in the right place.
