Black Clover #01 — AAAAAAHHHHHH

October 3rd, 2017

I DON'T KNOW HOW TO SPEAK AT A NORMAL VOLUME.

Impressions:

And here we have UQ Holder's first episode again, but with less fanservice and more screaming, which leaves me without much to say. It's just as generic as literally the last 'new' show I watched? It strikes no new territory, and does so without any life in the visuals and shouting irratatingly the entire time? It sure does spend a lot of time doing absolutely nothing, and the little it does is the exact same thing as five hundred other shows just like it? And when it does come time to impress with action or whatever, it barely even bothers to pretend like it's half-assing that?

You can probably just look at the caps, note that his jaw is always hinged open wide enough to swallow a keeshond whole, and get the general picture. Amazingly, the accomplishment that sets it apart from UQ Holder's first episode is that somehow, even less happens, yet it spends more time narrating it. Hell, they go to red to show how SUPER DEADLY chains are (before showing that they did basically no actual damage), and then spend about about twenty seconds talking to himself about how strong it was. The 'plot' here also only gets as far as the pissant jackass getting the dark power. You'll have to wait until next week to see if he uses it to defeat the random mook. I guess they also begin with the rival instead of the mentor. One is tall and blonde. One is tall and has dark hair. One is tied up with vines. One is tied up with chains. Completely different then. Not following the same tired formula to a goddamned T at all.

2 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

maybe it’s just because I’ve gotten older, but there seems to be a real dearth of notable shonen manga titles the last few years

did everybody just graduate to writing high school magical battle action harem light novels or what happened

  • The Phantom says:

I think the word for this show is: insipid, can’t use magic but has anti magic?, wants to become the next shaman… I mean wizard king? Wont even bother with how generic the lead is/looks/behaves.

Lets be frank here this anime is just to boost the manga sales, nothing else, so they are probably going to put as minimal effort as they can get away with.
