Gi(a)rlish Number #01 — Yay, Idols! Yay, Voice Actors!

October 6th, 2016

Oh god, yes. Let's end this long anime afternoon with some repugnant industry/idol schlock.

Impressions:

Oh, did I let my thoughts about this kind of show leak out already? Well, take that as a sign that this is yet another in the endless onslaught of overidealized nonsense about how hard voice actors/idols have to work, and how they're the pinnacle of all society and beloved by all. And our main character is just so full of blushes, and cutesy songs she sings to herself about working hard? And they're such friends, except for the bitchy mean girl, who they'll no doubt find friendship with through the powers of hard work. And if you're thinking this might have any kind of insight or whatever towards the idol/voice actor industry, guess a-bloody-gain, because it's just as superficially over-idealized as all the others of this ilk. 30 Rock had a more realistic take of its industry than any of these have ever had.

But the thing that annoys me about this more than the crappy animation, wafer-thin characters, lack of any plot/drama/comedy/point is that the main character's name is Karasuma Chitose. Seriously, guys? Could you really not come up with any other name at all? If this even threatens to bump the correct Chitose's results off Google's front page, there'll be hell to pay.

Next Episode:

I hope they're all murdered.
