Kekkaishi #34 — He’s Baaaaaaaack!

Gen and Kaguro sitting in a tree. K-I-S-S-I-N-G.
Bulletpoint summary this week. I got home today and basically went to sleep for about 4 hours so am still fairly groggy.Â
Impressions:
As much as I like Gen, these “Gen struggles with being part demon” episodes are starting to wear thin. I like Gen as a demon armed badass, not as an existential angsting putz. We still got a nice fightscene out of the episode though, and I do still think that Kaguro is quite the fun villain. His attempts to turn Gen evil are just kind of sad and pathetic though. I want him madly cackling from an easy chair again.
Summary:
- Another meeting at Kokuboro about the ‘insects’ of Karasumori. Aihi admits that their power may be greater than Kokuboro had first expected and it’s worth approaching them with caution.
- Aihi talks to Kaguro about what it must be like to be human. She used to be a faceless demon who watched family’s and envied them until she was sealed away.
- Gen has to deal with being fawned over by Yoshi’s dad.
- Yoshi pulls Gen aside into a room and the two have a talk about Masamori and the threat of Kokuboro vs the Yagyu.
- On the way to school, Gen smells something and charges off to find Kaguro in his human skin. He says that the two of them are the same. This pisses off Gen enough that he attacks, but even in the daylight, he’s no match for Kaguro.
- Kaguro says that he envies Gen’s freedom before leaving him with an egg and saying that he should hold onto it.
- Gen is about to destroy the egg, but stops when he hears a voice talking to him about love.
- Masamori calls, and Gen thinks about reporting about the egg, but decides not to.
- That night, a demon with a sonic bell attacks them.
- Gen gets fed up with being defensive, slashes through Yoshi’s protective barrier and attacks. Yoshi seals her bells to give him an opening and then he slashes the bells off the holder for Tokine to destroy.
- Gen attacks, but sees a vision of his sister as he’s about to attack and holds himself back, letting the demon slap him away. Yoshi seals and destroys it before they check on the grumpy Gen.
- At home, Gen looks at his hands and thinks that they’re covered in blood so feverishly starts to wash them. As he does so, the egg falls out and Kaguro’s voice keeps talking about how he should just give up before he hurts his friends.
- At Kokuboro, Byaku is reporting in to their princess, who is very annoyed and her health is getting worse. She clutches her chest and collapses, a piece of the building outside falls off.
- Aihi isn’t overly pleased with how Byaku wants to progress, but he uses his evil eye to keep her in line.
- The next morning, Gen is being barked at by a dog. Kaguro appears and says how annoying it is and chucks a knife at it, which Gen takes in the backpack to protect it.
- Kaguro hops down for another “we’re not so different speech,” and leans in close. Gen gets a bit more pissed and slashes at him, managing to cut off half his human face this time. Gen says that’s not true, but Kaguro asks why he didn’t throw away the egg then.
- Yoshi turns the corner to see the two together.

awhwwa, How long are they going to wait for Gen to die. LOL. Jk. I Really Like Kaguro so I’m happy that he keeps on showing up but never dies or has a true big fight with Gen. Hopefully next epi they will.
