Utawarerumono 2 #17 — Obligatory Post Apocalyptic Nonsense

January 30th, 2016

Somehow it was even more boring than I feared.

Impressions:

Anybody familiar with the original series knew this was coming, but good christ, did they do their best to make it as boring as goddamned possible and unanchored to goddamned anything as possible. Worse, it failed to answer the fundamental question of "so what?" It's just an info dump spat out on the screen, for a character with no presence or importance to not even react to, apropos of nothing and furthering nothing. Here's some goddamned lore for you. Bitches like lore. See how complex and deep our setting is? We're such great writers. Might as well have killed off some tertiary character with no presence or importance to anybody or anything, because lord knows this show has enough of those. And that's a sentiment I'm sure we won't be revisiting tomorrow.

Next Episode:

We're done with Mustachio already?

Ive been reading this blog for what, four years now, and I still don’t know what exactly you are Aroduc. A professional translator? You seem out of the publisher loop way too often for that. A fan translator? But then why do official releases keep using your stuff?

Was gonna post this under the phantom post where you talked about seinarukana but I’m not sure if you read old posts.

maybe its more cliche but I would have liked him to get glimpses from that green stone and gone to the emperor asking questions instead of being summoned and having his backstory dumped on him. as for leopard girl and sister in law, there analogs had very little screen time so I don’t see why we should care one way or the other. the ending seems to be heading towards (have not played the game)him telling off the emperor about how decoy people are still people and he should not kill of kuons people for access to research. emperor won’t listen and npc’s will burn for it.

also kind of a site note but since we are show that emperor made all of the people (- other experiments) why did not he just make the invading people part of his people and terraform their shit too, instead of nuking them every 200 years.also one can argue necessary of war but the way I saw the biggest issue haku had was that not only did the mask burn the town with enemy soldiers but he burned it along with imperial citizens. maybe im seeing it wrong but that was not addressed or emperor just went “meh it need doing and its not like they are real people”

This was… oh, about eight episodes too late in what should have been a 13-episode series.
