Okay, so maybe the correct response to that would be to stare in shock.

Impressions:

I feel like the day is only coming closer when Japan creates a 'parody' of harem shows where the protagonist is a sack of flour, but all the girls fuss and fight over it anyway, followed soon by the realization that that's what they've already been writing all along. But it'll be parody as long as there's a character who periodically says "That's not a person! It's just a sack of flour!" Anyway, getting to Fantasy Infinite Stratos, our protagonist spent the entire episode basically staring at things. He fell through a roof onto a girl in the dead center of a bath and stared, stared as people yelled at him, stared as things attacked, stared as he had dream flashbacks of previous times he stared, and then at the end, stared as the same girl showed him the awesome shape she shaved into the lush forest of her pubic hair. This was after masturbating in the bath to him for being the first guy ever to do anything for her. Christ, Japan.

This is another thing that I think was spontaneously spawned from the morass of Japan's light novel schlock, without even the trace of original thought or human influence, only marketing. It was the most generic copycat opening to this kind of thing imaginable and did nothing but spew idiotic exposition around every corner. What was that skill? Allow me to explain. What is that monster? Well, it's not just a monster, it's a yada yada yada yada yada. Shut the goddamned hell up. Even as far as these things go though, it was well behind, saaaay, either of Asterisk or Cavalry's opening episodes, and I can only imagine the ugly CGI and noncharacter characters are going to be getting CGIer and noncharacterier from here on given the clear lack of effort and ambition.
