Cavalry of the Failed Knight #07 — ‘Scuse Me While I Motorboat You
November 14th, 2015
That was somehow one of the least drawn out moments this week.
Impressions:
Once again, so much of this episode strikes me as simply really poorly thought out and in bad need of a 10 year old to point out the problems in the writing. From the start being her deciding to off herself rather than deal with any of it, all the way through the weird fight where about twice as much time was spent by the entire goddamned cast having to explain what was going on since they did a horrendous job of actually showing it and lengthened further by the protagonist half-assing it until he remembered he has more than that one power, whereupon he immediately wins. As formulas go, this one blows goats. Like I said for Anti-Magic Academy, you can't keep doing this over and over again. Either with the attempted fake suicide at the first sign of non-flashback struggle, or with his victory immediately upon actually trying. He simply stood around for the sake of letting them explain her super clever power of basically leaving invisible slashes sitting around, mostly via her and everyone else announcing it for the audience, along with how cool he was when he apparently dodged them.
So to sum this episode up… What? A school-sponsored fight between an expert fighter who spent almost the entire thing standing there and getting hit and someone who needed to be taught the basics of fighting by him as of a day or two ago. This was tainted by original sin even before the around 6 minutes of cutting away to the audience and flashbacks. Why? Because the writers said so. What's at stake? I don't know. Honor, I guess? Not being a supposed disappointment to hospitalized old men because you're insecure? I would say that I know you can do better than this, Japan, but lately, I'm really starting to wonder.

You still have what? 6-7 weeks to drop it before your brain cells are dead for good? At least the endcards made it not a complete waste of time.
