A Certain Magical Index #18 — Like An Indirect Kiss On My Meat

February 5th, 2009

Ew.

Impressions:

What a thoroughly enjoyable little episode. Sure, it didn’t really do anything important nor have any particularly interesting new characters or developments, but there was a lot of flustered Mikoto, a pretty decent little fight scene, and only about 3-4 minutes of clunky overwrought exposition. We’ve reached the point where I mentally tune that stuff out completely for this show anyway, so I barely even noticed when not-Mitsuki started ranting about power balance and espers and love and stealing Touma’s face and other inanity. The randomly falling girders through it were a bit much though. How bad was that construction site that they had about fifty girders that would fall at random intervals?

Most of the episode is Mikoto using Touma as her beard to get real-Mitsuki off her back, followed by stalker-boy (but not really stalker-boy) attacking Touma and getting a building dropped on him. Yeah, like I said, not the deepest or most complex thing this show has ever attempted. The whole indirect kiss via hot dog is all kinds of Freudian and I think it best if we just don’t go there. Touma does agree at the end to take care of Mikoto (well, probably, it’s muted and causes Mikoto to blush and freak out behind a girder at any rate), but otherwise, he’s not especially thrilled at being her heterosexual front. They’ve really been cranking up the Index fanservice these last few episodes too. First all the beach stuff, and now Touma gawking over her disheveled sleeping body. Dude sleeps in the bathtub though, I guess he deserves something to look at, even if he does barely pay attention to the girl that’s all but throwing herself at him.

Preview:

Accelerator and a little naked Misaka.

  • Gummi says:

This might be a great episode :D cant wait, also i love the new op.

  • Yue says:

Honestly, having Touma as a protagonist in a world of magic and esper abilities, it’s refreshingly ironic that battles turn into pure fist fight. Let’s have him learn martial arts. ^o^

  • Kraker2k says:

Tsundere has gone into full dere overload.

    I CAN’T TAKE IT NO MORE CAP’N!

  • sage says:

but there was a lot of flustered Mikoto

    And it’s all that matters.

    a little naked Misaka.

    Ah, wait. Also this.

  • TJ says:

    @Yue
Every guy that Touma *needs* to beat up rely too much on esp/magic and don’t know any martial arts, so there’s no actual need for him to learn any.

Looking forward the Accelerator’s heroic moment. let’s see if he can redeem himself after losing to Touma in such a pathetic way.

Fortunately, Mikoto’s on his side and never really tried to *kill* him. She can kick major ass even without powers.

I agree that he needs to learn martial arts. Street fighting ability can only get you so far.

  • Lero says:

Dere dere Mikoto make this episode perfect.
