The Asterisk War #01 — Truth in Advertising

So much for that.
Impressions:
What I distinctly remember of the promos is that this heavily focused on the action over the copy/paste premise and bevy of girls flashing T&A. So imagine my joy when our protagonist's first action is to walk in on the heroine in a state of undress, and then get stuck listening to her explain at length how and why she's angry, who she is, what the laws of the land are, all leading up to a singularly crappy little 'fight' that mainly consisted of the two of them standing thirty feet apart, waving their swords at the air, finished when he tackles and accidentally gropes her, which is far more important than any possible assassination. At which point, some walking pair of tits comes up, tits bouncing, and drags him off to flash her underwear at him, provide yet another goddamned five minutes of exposition, and rub her tits against him because he's her chosen bangtoy or something. Christ.
The episode was about 85% goddamned exposition and 10% fanservice, so there's not a lot to say about the characters or content because they may as well have not existed except as the forementioned T&A vehicles. You could call the remaining 5% action if you want, and at least it was actually animated, but it was murdered by the original sin of over-explaining every goddamned little thing happening in the scene. A grand total of four attacks in a two minute scene because they needed to flash the name of the attacks, explain what they were doing, and then usually why it didn't work. I say usually, because at one point, he just jumps through her attack, completely unscathed, apparently because about 10 seconds after entering a giant fireball, he swung his sword at the air, doing nothing but breaking his own attack's nameplate, so even the action was kind of a mess.
Basically what we've learned is that someone at Madhouse knows how to make promotional materials. This episode was nothing more than Just Another Bad Magical Teenagers At Magical Fighting School Light Novel Adaptation™, and not even in the upper echelon as far as those go.
