God Eater #02 — This is Why You Double Tap

You could wipe out an entire Japanese spec ops team just by having a bunch of people play dead.

Impressions:

Meh. Opinion’s only soured slightly from last week, and it was already at “mostly very boring.” This episode thankfully continued the silence thing for the first half, but that made all the bellowing BGM in the second half stand out even more. They couldn’t resist whipping out the melodramatic piano when he realized that Redshirt died protecting him… long, long, after the battle was over due to people not finishing their kills, or synthy rap of all things for the funeral portion. Yes, that’s what he would have wanted. Soulful rapping.

It’s still going nowhere very slowly, the characters are about as interesting as varnish, and the action is absolutely nothing to write home about. Even the little not exact effective visual direction stuff was pretty much gone this week. UFOTable, you lost your soul when someone took away your clay. But it did add a girl in a kilt with ass cleavage. Apparently that’s supposed to make up for it. Well, that and being the only show on Sunday period plus Sunday to Wednesday being… unpleasant. Feh.

    Damn lol. I absolutely loved UFOtable’s previous works. Mainly their Type-moon stuff. Fate/stay night did have it’s flaws. It was pretty slow at times, and had pacing issues due to the need to stretch out the material. Nevertheless I loved it because the good sides made up for the bad, at least for me.

    But this, THIS is something else entirely. I mean HOLYSHIT man God Eater DEFINES slow. SLOW, SLlllllllllllooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. What the heck is with this godawful pacing?! Not only that, why don’t the characters just MOVE.

    I mean seriously. First, the fights are sluggish as hell. The characters move slow as fuck. That’s not TOO much of a problem, but the characters frequently just stand and talk in the middle of an emergency. When MC saw LIGHTNING EVERYWHERE he stood there for like 10 seconds just going “HUH WUTS THIS?!” Even an average videogame nerd could have reacted faster. Then after he got stunned Lindow ran and picked him up. Instead of immediately moving him to a safer area he stood there for awhile, just watching the Vajra and going “lol dis not good!”.

    Hell people talked during battle in Fate/stay night too, but at least that was explained by the personalities of the combatants and such. Here they are fighting mindless beasts.

    Also take that scene where MC was released from prison. They had a freakking EMERGENCY where time is of the essence, they have to rescue a plane from being chewed out of the sky for heavens sake. So what do they do? Slllllllooowlly walk torwards MC’s prison cell, slooowlly ask him what he wants to do, slowwly explain the situation to him. Then he takes some time to ponder his choices LOL. Then when the prison cell opens, instead of rushing to get the job then he takes ONE DELIBERATE SLOW STEP, and the commander woman fucking stops him to have another chat. Goddamit people the Russians could be dead while they’re doing that.

    God Eater not only managed to be boring, but irritating in the processes! If you’re going to be slow at least put in interesting filler, have some cute girl do some moving around the screen or something. That seemed to work out for Rokka no Yuusha.

    Well at least the animation is smooth and the art is nice. I’ll give God Eater another episode since UFOtable has my trust, but things aren’t going well so far. If you’re going to make a Giant Monster survival action anime at the very least make the fights exciting. Even Attack on Titan got this part right.

    The use so many Slowmotions “Look how Awesome i am, walking in Slow mo!”.. But they forget something very Important. Do they have enough Episodes to bring us their Story? Because they already lost 1 Timeslot
