Show By Rock! #02 — Fourteen Sick

Where’s the giant skeleton?
I had to stop watching Arslan when he spent about five straight minutes with another stoned grin on his face in the middle of a battlefield. When I jumped to the end, he was screaming “Why” (again)Â at some random soldier. I stand by my “bic under a pot” metaphor.
Impressions:
You know, aside from the lack of drugs and whores, this may be the most realistic depiction of an actual rock band I’ve seen in years, and isn’t that a weird thought? Oddly, especially for a show supposedly headlined by a bunch of fetishy animal girls in a club/band, this was almost entirely focused on the men. Unfortunately, their main joke is that they’re excessively melodramatic about everything (what KyoAni would call being Fourteen Sick), which even the self-awareness and mocking thereof is a punchline done to death and then some, and I especially don’t see why they need 3/4 of the characters dedicated to the same joke. There are different flavors of this you can use, guys.
More unfortunately, it’s hard to really get the same drug-fueled vibe when next to nothing happens. Even episodically, this was pathetic. The female protagonists got to listen to some exposition and then have a sleepover for friiiiiiendship time, and that’s something that has been grating on me even more than usual. The males just faffed around a bit, performed, and then went home. The end. I feel that if we’re missing a giant neon skeleton, then we’re missing significant opportunities here.
Next Episode:
Other animal girls.

Well, you can’t have everything nice in every episode. At least things are sorta starting to make sense. Kinda. Maybe. A little.
Who are we kidding… @_x
