Tomorrow’s Yoichi #02 — School Daze

January 15th, 2009

A lot happened, okay!?

Impressions:

Well, they ramped up the fanservice a bit this week, especially early on, and gave Ibuki a bit more of a violent streak than I would have liked, but things calmed down about 5 minutes and it was a very enjoyable little ride from then on out. Still nowhere near the most amazing thing that I’ve ever watched, and the cast is cut out of some of the most tired cliches around, but they’re all such nice people and generally likeable that it’s just plain fun to watch them. Even Tate Washizu grew on me a little bit with all his delusions and the fact that he actually landed a couple good hits on Yoichi. Even if he’s way out of his league, at least he’s no slouch. I have no idea where he got his morning star hands though.

It does help that it really feels like they’re blitzing through the story. This episode could have easily been divided into at least three parts, if not four. While it did feel a little bit like it lacked focus at times, I certainly can’t accuse it of just filling time and space with nonsense. I’m pretty sure I’ll be sticking with this and starting real summaries next week, despite Black God and Index also being today. Unlike those two, this is just mindlessly enjoyable. The fanservice isn’t offensive, and still has yet to show a single panty or bra, and dammit, I just plain like Yoichi de gozaru.

Brief Summary:

Yoichi transfers into school and gets berated for his inexperience with girls, then he ends up getting sucked into a fight with the surprisingly decent (or at least willing to fight dirty) Washizu who thinks that Yoichi’s got Ibuki under his thumb. That brings us to slightly after the first eyecatch. From there, Yoichi gets sick, prompting more starry eyes from Ibuki who feels the need to take care of everybody. At the same time, Ayame is feeling a bit jealous since she’s always been in Ibuki’s shadow and now Yoichi is making her happy, so she tries to cook dinner for Ibuki. After Kagome helps her, she sees Yoichi and Ibuki laughing together and runs off, nearly dropping the food, but Yoichi catches it, tastes it, and gives her the encouragement that she always wanted to hear from everybody else while they were cheering on Ibuki. *whew*

so how many eps is this anime? seems like they rushed it noooo

  • Yue says:

Yoichi seems a bit off with the “gozaru” expression since its already modern Japan. Of course it maybe a Rurounin Kenshin parody. ^_~

  • Aroduc says:

‘(De) gozaru’ is an expression associated with samurai and the feudal era. It’s pretty much exactly parallel to the more feminine ‘desu’ as a sentence ender. It doesn’t really mean much of anything, just adds some polite emphasis specific to that particular speech pattern. Just remember how ritually formalized Japanese culture is and the importance of reflecting your class in your speech should be pretty self evident.

  • SOSAnimeBoy says:

w00t… Ibuki’s got bullet-train breasts in the anime.
