Samurai Warriors #01 — …Can We Just Use the Game Engine Instead?

The way Masanori is drawn disturbs me.
Impressions:
This may win the award for the cheapest-looking show of the season. Granted, when the fighting actually started, it elevated itself to middling with chronic stills and speedlines, but the first half was half-unanimated and ugly as sin. I think my favorite part may have been how Hayakawa showed up just long enough to huck a ball at Yukimura and then sat on the sidelines the entire rest of the time… only to have Kotaro pop up and do pretty much the exact same. No, the direction is not what I’d call competent.
I also have no idea what they’re even doing with this. They’re picking things up at the conquest of Odawara which is, uh… kind of one of the last major battle of the Sengoku era, barring Sekigahara, and a couple decades after Nobunaga and crowd, normally the ones most strongly associated with it. They didn’t even so much as had a cameo appearance in the really bizarre two minute montage of random scenes at the start or the OP, so I guess we’re just focusing on the boring, boring Sanada brothers. Except there’s not enough content in the game itself to cover two hours, so I have no idea how they think they’re going to make an entire series out of it. Even more faffing about duty and peace versus The True Spirit of the Sanada, I guess.
Next Episode:
Hideyoshi’s dead already.

Yeah, this should have focused on Kunoichi and her adorable hamster friend.
Dead serious.
