Does anybody actually find that attractive at all?
Impressions:
As the only thing at all airing on Tuesdays, what will this be doing to shoot itself in the knees? Oh, I see. Fantastic work. All the jiggling and flailing just makes me wince. Especially the running animation in the OP. Good lord. If they did more, you could at least say it was trying to go for the fanservice angle, but it really seems just content to go “here’s some tits slapping around like drunk seals.” Maybe it’s just obligatory. It’s kind of more of a magical girl show than anything (or I guess whatever you’d call stuff like Vividred or Leviathan), complete with a team of color coded allies, transformation sequence for fusing with the dog, etc.
I’m actually kind of surprised at how average the production turned out for the most part considering its awful pedigree. That could also be in part thanks to very low expectations due to some awful trailers. Still, the budget is very clearly lacking and it dresses itself in all the same awful cliches as usual. I think over six characters had to gasp in turn when they saw her transformation. The writing’s unadventurous but covered about what you’d expect from an opening episode with the exposition quickly giving way to showing off Momo training, being an idiot, etc. Not that those things were executed well, mind you, but they were executed instead of being lipservice. Nobody being emotionally insecure, angsty, wallowing, or screaming/gongs blaring at me probably also helped too. Wooden sword breaks? Immediately summon a magical one. Hit by an ogre? Eat a dog. Would that all protagonists were that proactive.
I guess I’d call it half-competent across the board, outside of the breasts flailing. If they can get the budget and talent together better for some decent action, it could turn out okay, but I can’t say that I’m enthusiastic to watch more. It didn’t impress on any front, but it steered clear from the worst of the cardinal sins too. There are plenty of shows this season that did a whole lot less, a whole lot worse, and didn’t provide any opportunities for making fun of their misconceptions about female anatomy. It’s not like there’s anything else airing on Tuesdays anyway.
