Chaika #09 — A Whole Big Fat Lot of Absolutely Nothing

They’ve stopped even pretending otherwise.
Impressions:
What is it with Japan lately and magical powers fueled by memories? Was The Neverending Story 2 some kind of big thing that didn’t reach them until 2010 and then took the entire country by storm and we’re just now seeing the effects of that? And yes, that little 15 second conversation is more interesting than like… the entire rest of the episode which features such astonishing other reveals and developments like “there are poor people who blame the rich,” “that girl like likes that one guy,” and “they go shopping!”
And then there’s the obligatory maudlin flashbacks of everybody dying. The most bizarre part is how their surrogate father/trainer/whatever looks like a fusion between the two, and anime genetics as they are, means that he’s probably their kid, likely time traveling from the future to train them to defeat him because the wizard lives on in his arm. See how easy it is to write something more interesting than “they go shopping” and “they also go shopping, but have to check two or three places because they’re all out of magic?” Or was that the plot of one of the Metal Gear Solids?
Next Episode:
Darkness.

Now that’s the kind of review I like to read. Dunno what you put into your drink while watching but I’d just recommend to stick with it.
PS: MGS is nanomachines.
