Black Bullet #02 — Gun-Knives

That seems like a good way to snap your wrist, but I guess I’m not a cyborg clown.
Belated Edit: I glanced through Soul Eater Not’s second episode. It looked like they went shopping twice, slept together, and then struggled… struggled to carry one cup of tea on a tray. All pretenses that it was the Soul Eater universe (eg action) and not the School For Lobotomized Lesbian Teens were gone.
Impressions:
I’m a little conflicted. There’s the loquacious clown and his diarrhetic nonsense exposition about being a secret cyborg and after some magical scienceful widget, but then he just goes ahead and kills half the wackily dressed people in the room and dumps a gift wrapped severed head on the table. That’s more than what happened in like… every single LN adaptation over the past five days, and that was just the first seven minutes. And then, before we reach the halfway point, the cops have hauled off one of the witch girls and put a few bullets through her head. Gun-haver’s not the super hero he once was though and it doesn’t take.
Nobody can certainly accuse this of moving too slowly, although in a true rarity, I think it might be jumping forward in places a little too fast, and that’s setting aside the utter nonsense that is clown exposition. Enju’s reveal as one of the parasite girls and subsequent disappearance was exceedingly abrupt and would have flowed a lot better if it had happened right after her getting upset about him not helping the other girl. The transition into the flashback was also a bit ragged, not to mention that the montage they used for “learning to live together” were all clips from the last episode. They’re probably also using maybe too light of a touch on Renty’s snapping about referring to the little girls as things. While yes, obviously, it’s not righttm they also haven’t given enough context for the way that he blows his top every time it comes up, especially since it seems to come up every five minutes as far as the narrative is concerned.
I’m still pleasantly surprised by this so far. Even if a few parts are a little too glossed over and the big picture is half-nonsense, the action was kept at a respectable level and the smaller episodic picture of clowns killing things and/or Enju and Renty remain competent, confident, ready and willing to throw down with them with just enough action and decently enough done to make me hope that they might pull something cool off at the climax of the arc instead of a disappointing speedliney/expositiony fart. They even toned down the creepy obligatory LN magical girlfriend sextoy things too.

I look at this show with its organization full of pseudo cop-like guys partnered with superpowered little girls who are feared and hated by society and I think about a darker toned version of ZKC.
I like that you are calling the MC by something that is not “Doofus” or “Dumbass” for once but “Renty” is a terrible pet name.
