Murder Princess #05: Technology… BAD!
July 28th, 2007
Now entering the shitty generic RPG cliche exposition episode.
Impressions:
This was a pretty atrocious episode all said and done. The generic RPG “technology is evil!” speech went on for about 5 minutes longer than it needed to and the whole “Kaito figures out that Milano is the princess” was really forced and pretty much out of nowhere. Even Pete and Dom’s demon forms were pretty lame and the fight scene that accompanied them was a pair of stills. There was essentially no plot movement and nothing visually interesting going on either.
Oh well, one episode left, and the preview is action filled. Alita also gets headbutted by an armored Kaito in it. That’s gotta hurt.
Summary:
Years ago, a village was slaughtered. Falis was the only survivor.
Kaito and Ceci are organizing their troops to search for the ‘rebels’ who escaped. Our group is hiding in the forest they’re searching, with Ludo having met up with them. Nearby, some travellers are having trouble moving their wagon, so Pete picks it up to help. Later, the soldiers are inspecting the wagon, but they find nothing, so send it onward. Unsurprisingly, our group was hiding inside it.Â
That night, Alita is still knocked out and Dom is getting more restless over it. The gypsy lady tells them to not worry as she looks strong. Milano is trying to become friends with the robot lolis and is serving them tea. They’re a bit confused about how nice she’s treating them, but Milano says that they were just obeying orders and that she can tell that they really loved the doctor.
They tell about how doctor Onionhead was helped by a mage (Cecilia) to use the lost technology to create them and how she talked him into attempting the coup d’tat to seize the power of Teoria, but now that he’s dead, they don’t know what to do with themselves.
Alita finally wakes up and asks them about the power of Teoria. Nobody really knows, only that it’s something not of this world. Alita thinks that Dom may know something, but he doesn’t really. He does explain that there are different types of lost technology in the world though. Some, like him (and he transforms his arm) and others like the robot lolis. Teoria is almost certainly one of these very powerful lost technologies, probably one of the core ones or an energy source.
Milano takes over at this point and explains the history of the world. It’s the usual “humans used too much technology and destroyed themselves so it had to be sealed up” spiel seen in every RPG from here to infinity. Â Blah blah blah the power of Teoria couldn’t be destroyed and needed to be sealed up yada yada yada never fall into the wrong hands, Forland was supposed to protect it etc etc etc. They go on for literally about five minutes and bore me to tears.
Milano apologizes for dragging Alita into it and says that it’s her fault. Alita brushes away her tears and says that she’s in it now of her own will, then senses something. The soldiers have found them. The gypsies take off in their wagon, but are surrounded by knights, Kaito and Ceci.
The gypsies try to run anyway, and all the knights give chase. The lolis shoot to spook the horses, but quickly run out of bullets. The rocket arm one gets up to shoot, but she’s out of energy too and collapses as both call out for the professor.
Dom and Pete jump out next. Their eyes glow and they unleash their true powers and become demonlike things. They attack as the others look on saying that lost technology is scary. Ceci tries to attack Dom, but he’s too fast for her and taunts her. Ceci doesn’t give a crap and just incinerates the whole area with a huge lightning storm.
The gypsies are approaching the border of the country… but Kaito is there waiting and throws a spear in the wheel… somehow managing to destroy the entire cart. Milano grabs Alita’s sword and a cloak and starts running. Kaito chases her, disarms her and tells her to reveal the secret of Teoria. Her cloak finally drops and he realizes that she’s not Alita.
She stares him down and he recognizes something in her eyes and demands to know who she is. She tells him that she never told him her name. She then yells at him for forsaking his duties to Forland. He finally figures out that she’s the real princess.
Alita sees him with his sword pointed at Milano still, and rushes him, grabbing her sword en route. She manages to surprise him and slash his face, but collapses before she can finish him. He quickly retreats.
We return to the flashback where the last defender of Falis’ village is standing against Ceci with the sword. He deflects one blast, but then she kills him. Ceci doesn’t see Falis hiding though, and walks away. Falis picks up the sword… and then snaps back out of it. They’ve escaped Forland and are now a little more relaxed. Alita tells Milano that this was all destiny, and they’ll be together to the very end.
The gypsies take off, while Alita says that it’s time to bring an end to this.
