Strike The Blood #01 — Those Damn Japanese Italian Vampires
October 4th, 2013
I can’t remember any time when "Me no speaky English" worked.
Impressions:
Boy, that escalated quickly. One minute, you’re simply sexually harassing some teenager in the middle of a completely empty major street in broad daylight, the next minute, you’ve summoned a flaming horse. I think what might confuse me the most though is that they showed people who weren’t there to begin with running away in terror. Well, they were there at the start of the scene, then the streets mysteriously became empty again until there was an entire mob fleeing. I’m aware that as far as criticisms go, that ranks as one of the more petty ones I’ve made, but I’ll justify it as a symptom of the relatively low budget and poor direction this show has. And how unengaging this episode was to allow my mind to wander and think about such things.
The leads are a bit dull too, and even a bit of platonic crotch rubbing didn’t make up for the corny nose bleeds because *gasp* panties. I thought we were over that, Japan. Or at least were now reserving it for only comically excessive nosebleeds. The protagonist looking eternally annoyed or bored to be in the show wasn’t helping either, but the slow start was probably the bigger killer. It was a very formulaic light novel beginning without anything particularly eyecatching and being stretched out to fill the entire episode. Girl accosted, who’s saving who!?, *giggle* panties *giggle*, overly long talking heads introductions. Yawn. Maybe the angsty flashback was supposed to excite me. Needless to say, it did not.
Next Episode:
Night apparently.

Well at least it seems like could be a decent action show. It probably end up being that kind of show where everything that isnt a fight is dull or angst ridden.
