Infinite Stratos #14 — Escalation
October 3rd, 2013
I’m not sure I’m in on the joke here.
Impressions:
Okay, it’s becoming clear that Japan is just screwing with me now. Is this all some kind of priming for Valvrave on Thursdays next week? Or is it some kind of "Bad Writing Fall Thursdays" theme? So let’s have a mini summary. If you remember my preview, I said it’d be better if it stayed away from the heavy stuff since that’s where the first season faltered. So how does this start? Ichika having a dream of everyone fighting, Houki sobbing, and being strangled. He then wakes up to Laura in his bed again, sleeping in uncomfortable rubber, and angling for romance as she squirms with her hands in her crotch. Stop at this point and guess how the remainder of the episode went. I’ll wait.
Made your guess? Well if you guessed that the remainder of the episode would be a lesbian date between Charl and Laura where they also fight off bank robbers who busted into a maid cafe by kicking ice in their faces, then you could probably be making a mint running a psychic hotline. I think the two most confusing questions about that entire affair is exactly how much money they had since there was just one little satchel of money, and why the hell would you cover yourself in explosives then keep them a secret from absolutely everyone. That scene escalated like you wouldn’t believe. It’s a wonder the other robber didn’t have a nuclear device. We only hook back up with the rest of the cast toward the end for a montage (after Ichika wonders why they’re all mad about finding out that the date he asked them individually on is not individual after all) which apparently was part of the awful OVA episode, and even that’s after a random aside where other people are doing other serious things… mysteriously.
Production’s a big step down from the first episode of the first season. Maybe they know that they don’t really need to try. Maybe they’re saving up. Pfft. I guess at least besides the couple parts, it was more amusingly badly written than just boringly badly written, but otherwise, no real surprises here. *shrug* Moving on…
Next Episode:
New girl.

Wait, what if we guessed right?
