Hayate the Combat Lovely Children #33 — Crime and Punishment
November 16th, 2008
Welp. Rie’s up to 3 speaking roles in this show now.
Impressions:
A surprisingly fun little episode, even if it was especially nonsensical throughout and really didn’t advance anything anywhere. Pretty much the entire core female cast except for Maria got a few lines this episode with Hayate even showing up at the very end to assure us that everything was okay. Everybody’s daydreams were pretty funny and I admit to laughing at Muscle’s particularly ridicuous outfit this time around. Short shorts, a belt, fingerless gloves, a jacket, and a tie. Now that’s style. There was a little bit more repeatitiveness than I like, but that’s an artifact of the somewhat achronic nature of the story. The second half ran pretty much parallel to the first half until the last three or so minutes, so we saw a lot of reused stuff, only from Mio/Momo/Muscle’s point of view.
Next week looks really awesome though, so I’m psyched.
Ultra Brief Summary:
Tohno makes Kaoru lose the lunch that Minamoto made especially for her after the girls get Chisato daydreaming about what an awesome brother Minamoto would be, and the two of them accidentally stumbled into a BABEL facility. Shiho and Aoi think up the worst things possible for the pair while Chisato uses her ESP to listen in and is scarred for life. Meanwhile, Mio and Muscle decide to go screw around with BABEL a little bit and see Kaoru lose her lunch. They all start fantasizing over it for various reasons, and end up following Kaoru and Tohno before snatching it, though it’s quickly retrieved and they’re chased back to PANDRA, where Kyosuke’s got a complete lunch just for them.
Edit:
There’s some weirdness with this post’s timing and possibly a duplicate in your feed because I’m messing around with the cacheing and need to see what’s actually going on.

And in the next episode, Minamato becomes a coprophage. What a way to skip the best part of the series and move to volume 13.
