Date Al I’ve #10 — Infodump Time

Where’d your budget go?
Impressions:
Very disappointing ending fight for Kurumi and begs the question of why, if it was only going to be a few minutes long, didn’t they just end with instead of the cliffhanger of Dumbass being cannoned? Lord knows there was plenty that could have been cut over any episode of this arc. The budget for this show was never spectacular, but even the episode where they fought a weaponized strip mall had more effort put into it. This was followed up by the awesome triumverate of Japanese storytelling, exposition, flashbacks, and amnesia. Because that is the way to elicit sympathy and emotion. Sit in a room and read off practically a checklist with violins playing in the background. I miss the samba music. I am so goddamned sick of sad violins this season. It’s actually steered clear of this brand of terribleness for a while, but memories of early infospew episodes come crashing back.
And apparently the character that was central to this arc and who everthing needed to end on was Origami. After all, without her, the last few episodes would have… uh… I’ll think of something. At least she brought with her some of the show’s traditional bizarre music. It made me feel something. That’s more than I can say for Kotori’s entire infodump. I’m not entirely sure why the entire screen turned red. Maybe it was a warning that the brief moment of levity in the show was over and it was time to be melodramatic again… followed by the chirpy ED as usual and a preview for a swimsuit episode. But who needs a consistent tone?
Next Episode:
Bathing suits.

The budget died last week. Not sure if Kurumi’s orgasmic voice can keep me watching for much longer.
