Love Live! #13 — Dance Dance Revolution
March 31st, 2013
The counter to angst.
Sorry. Slept in. And Gargantia’s first two episodes have been released at a festival by now, but who knows if they’ll pop up on the internet or not. I’m not going to be keeping a close eye open.
Impressions:
Ugh. This was just a mess. I have no idea what they were doing at all here. Some kind of corny "they all come together and win Love Live after all through the power of friendship" would have been better than this ending. I thought at least the slap would jolt Honker out of moping, but no. It wasn’t until later when she was playing Dance Dance Revolution in an arcade that she rediscovered how not to be a joyless little bitch. Not that she stopped being a stick in the mud then. No, it took her another 7 minutes or so before she found the balls to go to the airport for her friend. I guess security isn’t as tight in Japan either.
The ending song and dance number was the epitome of just thrown in there out of obligation with an incredibly pithy and awful speech about dreams thrown in over them singing.
Final Thoughts:
MEH about sums it up. I liked the music, energy, and humor of the first episode, and it was a relatively slow day, so whatever, but nothing really stands out in this one at all except maybe how the writing just goes on a steady decline from start to finish, especially as far as the cast is concerned. Characters lose substance and personality as the show progresses until the most distinguishable one is so just because she makes a lot of silly faces. The rest just melt into a single faceless blob of the idol group. At least the music wasn’t horrible, although I think I’ve got my rotoscoping quota fulfilled for the year.
