Absolutely Lovely Children #27 — Strike Witches, Lucky Star, and Gomzo

October 5th, 2008

Oh lord, what the hell happened here?

Impressions:

Ladies and gentlemen, a moment of silence please for Over the Future World.

*sigh* I really don’t like the new OP. In fact, the whole episode felt pretty weird. Gonzo had a hand in producing this episode (and I think will be heavily contributing in the future as well) and there were a ton of stylistic changes to the show’s animation that’ll take a lot of getting used to. They weren’t bad perse, just very very different from the last 26 episodes. It wasn’t horrible CG though, and so long as Gonzo is kept as far away from the writing and directing as possible, it should be alright, but I am a bit concerned that the cameos and homages were ramped up almost uncontrollably. There were Strike Witches (in pants!), Lucky Star characters, Ranka Lee, and the Gomzo (sic) dish, as well as a few other things that I’m sure I should have recognized, but my general antipathy towards Gonzo shows makes me ill equipped to do so.

Otherwise, just an episode about PANDRA trying to spread good press about themselves and bad press about the Children, so they ended up hunting down the magnet and mindcrush brothers and forcing them to make a cutesy cutesy magical girl version of the ad for BABEL. Of important note is that even the bridge bunnies are calling Minamoto a lolicon now, and one of the other massively powerful multi-powered espers (Fujiko Tsubomi, who has been asleep for the last 26 episodes) makes her appearance with a real introduction next episode. We did see her butt in the previous one, but she actually wakes up and starts wandering around here.

Not Over the Future World!

Actually I don’t think the Witches are wearing pants. In any case, it’s hard to see due to the desks.

  • DmonHiro says:

Say, who’s the dissapearing girl at the end of the OP? The one trying to hold hands with Minamoto?

  • Hiyono says:

Caroline, someone he knew from before he joined Babel. She hasn’t made an appearance yet.

  • cnnydz says:

no she is not caroline, actually it is carrie, caroline will never do that

  • Rawr says:

Is this episode any indication of the quality that is to come in the future? I abhor gonzo for the most part considering they have the tendency to butcher perfectly good things up. Was there even any real reason for gonzo to have a part in animating this episode? My enthusiasm for the show could hit rock bottom if gonzo continues lending a hand…

    Oh god, not Gonzo. :(
The first 26 eps were alle fine and dandy, so Synergy thought they’d call in Gonzo to fuck it all up for them?
