School Days #01 – Feels Like Deja Vu All Over Again
July 3rd, 2007
Remember back when Hinano (I think) subbed part of the School Days game? It was nearly identical to this.
Impressions:
If you’re a fan of the game and its original story, you’ll probably have a ball with this. For what it is, it’s rather well done. Art is crisp and clear, well animated, music doesn’t get in the way of the show (or maybe I’m still bitter from Doujin Work). Sayonji is also pretty adorable, although so many of the characters look similar that it’s somewhat hard to tell who’s who exactly. The chemistry between Sayonji and Makoto is also rather good and they make a fairly entertaining pair, which makes the whole “get Makoto to go out with Katsura” thing somewhat strange to me. Play to your strengths, dammit. Keep the entertaining pair together!
At any rate, like the game, by the end of the first episode, the love triangle is already in full force with her planting a wet one on Makoto. If it can keep up the fun parts and Sayonji stays a central character, I can see myself enjoying this quite a bit… though from what I know, I’m pretty sure that’s not going to happen. I’ll probably give it a few more episodes to see which direction it’ll go in, but I’m fairly certain that this is probably going to be the most laugh filled and entertaining episode and there’ll be an endless stream of schoolgirl drama to follow. We’ll see though. I’m not certain I’ll keep blogging it though, as I’m fairly certain Random Curiosity will, and I know for a fact that Subculture will. No sense in a clusterfuck of summaries.

Often, the music of the series gives better hints about the future, and all my formal academic music education tells me, that the music and sound effects in this episode is strongly pointing at a bad end, with Makoto and Kotonoha doing something dark and extreme.
