Guilty Crown #18 — Shot Through the Heart
February 23rd, 2012
Couldn’t resist, but I apologize for nothing.
Impressions:
And then there’s Guilty Crown. Since apparently we’ve exhausted all that we want to do with the students, it’s time to write them out of the show, so Gai creates a missile out of almost all of them in the area and shoots it at the bomber. I, uh… guess you can do that with Void powers now. He very conveniently leaves one alive to attack him and get shot in the back just to make sure everybody knows that he’s evil now. Then it’s time for Slutty McClassPresident to kill her grandfather because… well, if I said there was a reason I could discern besides "we really need to make her turn to the antagonist side convincing," I’d be lying. Honestly, I had forgotten that he even existed before they dragged him out of retirement just to kill him three minutes later.
Finally, in the second half, it’s back to Shu. He’s apparently fairly hale and hearty despite losing an arm, just too sad to do anything besides stare at pictures of his old life. Inori’s wandering the streets, letting out her inner psychopath to kill anybody who tries to mug her as her form of foreplay because she goes right home after that and tries to manhandle Shu’s… uh… Void. Yada yada, flashbacks yada yada "You’re not real," yada yada, knock Shu out then kiss him, give him magical widget which will probably turn into a new arm, go off to try to unleash the inner psychopath at Team Bad Guy, because "As long as you can protect Shu, it’s okay if you’re a monster or a fake." I’m so glad that point was so well developed up to here. And then Gai shoots her in the heart with an arrow which transforms into bondage rope, because after all, this is still Japan.
So business as usual more or less. I can’t say it was as utterly inane as I prefer this show to be, mostly because the first half was pretty dull aside from Gai using his magical missile Void power. At least there wasn’t much time allotted to Shu continuing to feel sorry for himself (when isn’t he?), but I haven’t a clue what they’re trying to do with Class Pres besides make her even more unsympathetic to anybody. …Which does fit right in with most of the rest of the cast, I guess. We’ve reached horror movie levels where I’m rooting for the magic crystal disease to kill them all. It warms the cockles of my black heart just thinking about it.

You forgot Daryl being in love with Tsugumi apparently (the power of candy apples) and protecting her in the most half-assed way of forcing an OTP I’ve seen since…. well, ShuXInori.
