Invasion!? Squid Girl #15 — Yet More Child Violence
October 10th, 2011
And yet, still not enough.
FYI, since everything’s aired except GONZO on Saturday and the noitaminA shows on Thursday, I’ll post the usual wrapup on Wednesday since there’s nothing going on that day. That’ll also let me figure out what to do with the disaster of Tuesdays, if anything.
Impressions:
Extremely weak episode all around. Part one was Squid feuding with Sanae’s dog over her getting attention instead of him. "Butt sniffing… ha ha!" Sadly, that was really about it for the humor there. Part two started just abysmally. Okay, I got it. They’re doing radio calisthenics. You don’t need to show the entire thing. And more importantly, you don’t need to show it twice. And if you thought to yourself "Those movements are silly looking," then congratulations, you’ve successfully surmised the joke for most the rest of the segment. Squid just wandering off and started doing them in front of other people while they go "What crazy thing is she doing now?" Come on, Diomedea. Be at least a little unpredictible here. Squid accidentally bludgeoning every other child with her hair was about as close as that came and I think the only time I cracked a smile during this whole affair.
That leaves part numero trey to shore up the episode… and it did not. Squid becomes a Rifu Seiba Life Saver lifeguard. The jokes here were that after Goro correctly chastised kids for playing around too dangerously, she started yelling at people for playing around normally. Then he yelled at her for getting it wrong. Until she got it right and saved some kids. Stellar. Next!
