Absolutely Lovely Children #21 — MECHA OBORO
August 23rd, 2008
Only slightly more creepy than the other dolls.
I’m in a bit of a hurry, and my stream compeltely crapped itself out in the last couple minutes, just to pick up with the shift to the pre-ED CM, so this’ll be a bit terse. I may add to it later once I get back… or maybe work on BMW4. We’ll see.
Impressions:
Any episode that contains about five minutes of recap, even if it uses new footage, gets a thumbs down from me. I don’t mind that whose-his-face is a traitor to BABEL either. I don’t even care about him one way or the other. Hell, I don’t even remember his name, and they said it at least a few times during the episode. Something with three syllables at any rate. I also have to wonder why Minamoto didn’t just bust out the stealth suit if he wanted to tail Kashiwagi. Kaoru got her hands on one with very few issues, though I suppose that she did have the chief backing her. I’d expect Kashiwagi to have at least as much pull as him though, if not more since she has a working frontal lobe.
A pretty lame episode all around though, and the recap didn’t help one bit. I got something of a kick out of Nabeshin showing up a few times for god only knows why. Still, even though my stream crapped out a few times, I really have very little desire to rewatch this one and see what I missed. Oh well, ce’st la vie.
Brief Summary:
Ugh. Almost all of the first half was recap. Apparently the creepy doll puppet esper dude is feeding Kyosuke information on the Espers at BABEL. The normals too, but Kyosuke doesn’t care much about them. Only… there’s a hole in his notes. There’s no data at all on Kashiwagi, so Kyosuke sends him off to spy on her.
After she defuses a tough situation with tea and her feminine charm, she walks out into the hallway where creepy-guy is hanging on the ceiling taking pictures of her. She suddenly disappears, but she’s not an esper, just clumsy. As he tries to lurk off, someone stops him.
In the locker room, Kashiwagi senses someone nearby. She calls out, but nobody answers. Kaoru then appears behind the locker door to harass her, but Kashiwagi figures out that it wasn’t Kaoru. She goes to Minamoto and begs him to help her, so he starts tailing her, including nearly following her into the women’s bathroom, traumatizing Naomi.
The chief chews out Minamoto until Kashiwagi speaks up and tells them that she asked him to follow her. Everybody suspects it’s Kaoru, but she’s acting strangely, which just makes Minamoto, Shiho and Aoi even more suspicious.
Creepy guy is working in his lab on a mecha Oboro. Turns out that Kaoru was the person who found him taking pictures of her, and assumed that he had a crush on her. Since she doesn’t want to share, she’ll snap the photos, but he has to build her a robot replacement to… snuggle or whatever Kaoru does with these things. Kaoru shows up to glomp the robot, but there’s an emergency call and she’s forced to deploy. Creepy guy has been building other things too, like a tiny doll shaped like one of the comm station girls.
The emergency call was some crazy guy holding a knife to some peoples’ pet pig. Everybody is disappointed in this.
Creepy puppet boy runs into the girl he built a doll of (CREEPY) and the two share a romantic comedy moment by bumping into each other and then touching hands while pink fog covers the screen.
After resolving the pig crisis, Shiho reads Kaoru and learns the whole Oboro ‘plan.’ They go to confront puppet boy, who has invited the comm station girl into his lab (CREEPY!). This is about where my feed cut out, but I did see that Sakaki managed to beat out creepy-boy and walked off with his arm around the comm girl while the stalker flipped out.
Preview:
Oho. Minamoto’s been getting some action. And what’s the point of eveningwear on the kids. They can’t fill it out. What a waste.
