C80: Touhou Sky Arena Expansion And Assorted Affairs

August 4th, 2011

Honestly, I didn’t really have much luck finding almost anything that looked particularly interesting game-wise for this upcoming Comiket by browsing through the catalog. It didn’t help that everything Touhou related is off in its own area these days. I almost miss when every other game was based on Kanon instead. There are a lot of trials, as well as the occasional thing that makes zero sense whatsoever, but Ten Desires, Tasofro’s Grief Syndrome and Aja’s Big Bang Beat Revolve are really the only full games that’ve caught my eye so far. Even for Touhou Sky Arena, I’m more interested in the OST than the Panty Shot Tengu and Sanae expansion… and Aja’s Scarlet Symphony 2 artbook for that matter. Hopefully something will surprise me.

    YES!! MORE SKY ARENA!

Strange that Sky Arena has characters like Suwako and Okuu but lacks mainstays like Remilia and Patchouli. I guess there’s *someone* who thinks Scarlet Mansion got too much attention in fandom.

I wasn’t particularly impressed by the trial from last Comiket. It’s pretty, but repetitive as all hell.

I’m excited for RebRank’s RefRain and Platine Dispositif’s Bloodvane. For anyone who hasn’t looked in the past few days, RebRank’s site now has a 3-stage demo for RefRain, version 1.00.1 and there’s a demo for Bloodvane now too.

But I’m a big shooter fan, as long as they’re not made by Cave…which of course puts me at odds with 99.9% of shooter fans.

Freesia was kind of meh for me as well, though I’m interested in the “remaster” of Ether Vapor.

I’m a little tired of all the shooters nowadays. I still try out most I can get my hands on, but I just play through them on Normal or Hard once and then toss ’em in the pile. I do wish AQLoop stuck with them instead of World of TWAIN though, since that’s seeming… not so good, and I really like AQ’s art style, music, and overall presentation for their stuff.
