MAO #01 — The Rattling of an Empty Head
April 4th, 2026
This girl may have brain damage.
Impressions:
It's certainly Inuyashi2, or 3, or whatever number we're on. And probably would've been more tolerable if the protagonist wasn't a complete blithering imbecile perpetually ten minutes behind everything going on. Hey, wait, why are those people dressed differently… and wait, are they also on fire and transparent? Huh. That's weird. I wonder if it has anything to do with how the entire world has changed. Eh, it's probably just the dream. Wait, I have super speed and toxic blood? Eh, it's probably just my imagination. Why do these people keep saying I'm a demon and a creepy lady forcefeeds me some suspicious goop after some demon ate my family in front of me. Eh, it's probably just the wind. Girl, we are long past the point of dense.
Which also makes her the sounding board for a whole boatload of tedious infodumping while no character has a chance to having any actual character. She's an idiot. He's a brooding exposition machine. Neither suggest any kind of story that sounds at all interesting. He's on a quest to find some monster, and she has her random mysteries, but there's no pressure to get around to either from either the characters or the non-events within the episode. Setup with a hook. A goal that forgets to include actual motivation or purpose. Good characters make a cliched story fun. Lack of both is a death knell.
