Midnight Heart #05 — Level 0 Distracting

February 3rd, 2026

Weird dude.

Impressions:

I think where this episode failed is that it kept introducing supposed issues, hyperventilated about how they were such big issues, and then immediately solved them with the first thing that they came up with on the spot. Oh no, this teacher will stop us. But what if she didn't. Oh no, that teacher will stop us. But what if he didn't. Oh no, we can't hand out fliers. But what if we cosplayed and did. Oh no, our equipment broke. But what if I had a replacement. This is how most of the episode is spent It's not overcoming actual adversity so much as it is pretending like the adversity existed in the first place, half the time for incredibly half-assed half-fanservice.

Which leaves the last five minutes or so of the episode where it teases that it'll once again be advancing the central not-mystery of who his DJ crush was. If they really are going to advance that, sure, good. I'm tired of it and don't think the show needs it, but I'm fairly certain that it's just going to be all of them in the room, whether or not all of them are the DJ. Whose Her Face's two seconds of trauma over her mother/sister/producer/whoever seemed like the far more interesting thing to focus on as the source of her need to please people and succeed, but like last episode, that was ignored for her to simply hand out hugs.
