Ninja vs Yakuza #01 — Decaposition

October 7th, 2025

A minute long power point intro infodump was not a good sign.

Impressions:

It's a good thing that every single character is constantly announcing what happened or I wouldn't be able to follow along at all. With such naturally flowing dialogue too. "Hey, bro! You've been decapitated!" "You've been decapitated too!" "We've both been decapitated! And so fast that it happened before we even noticed it!" "We were decapitated before we realized it happened because he moved so fast!" "Yes, he moved so fast that he decapitated us and dodged a bullet before we could even react." Who needs lungs to speak anyway? Remarkably lucid for people whose heads are hovering in the air so that they can finish the entire paragraphs they have to recite. Writing is hard, apparently. As is adaptation.

So no, one of the scant few action shows of the season does not make the most of it, and it is terrible. The pacing, which just spits out the premise in a minute long info-dump at the start and then pisses about, the characters who angrily yell out their special powers and reason for mass decapitations, and of course, the lack of animation and direction. He doesn't behead people. They were beheaded. Off screen. No, you can't see it. But we'll tell you it happened, at length. Exhaustive length. It's like the worst passive voice for story telling imaginable, but in visual form.
