Who could have thought AI would screw that up?

Impressions:

I like how it started out with drones and a tablet, so seemed like it was taking the ancient tech-focused episode forward… only to rewind and everything else being exactly the kind of thing you'd see in 80s media super high tech Devices Of The Future, complete with pixelated three button interfaces. Can only modernize so much, I guess. Was probably just a TV or video tape or something in the original, but I'm not bothering to check this time. You'd also think that they'd have done more with him inventing a robot that steals animal souls and becomes a killer droid, but they just… didn't. It menaces some of his friends, gets dismantled, and then it's time for the denouement.

It really needed him resisting a bit more. That's how these episodic things go. He wants to be a successful inventor. He gets his wish, but it has a cost. He forges ahead because it was his dream even as the cost gets worse. Realizes it's gone too far. Returns to the status quo having grown and with acceptance of it. That's the basic structure of these things, whether sitcom or… I dunno, Sonic Boom. And it's almost there, but him immediately realizing his mistake and changing course without any resistance or friction steal away any dramatic moments or growth. Also, they just tossed out the haunted evil tablet for someone else to find. Which is the third or fourth time in this show that they've found a murderous spirit, stopped it from killing the nearby kids, and then set it loose to go after someone else. Not our problem, after all.
