Hell Teacher Nube #01 — Penetrating Children

July 2nd, 2025

But for good.

This is the other double feature of the day, though it's explicitly split into two episodes rather than one double length episode, so I guess I'll approach it as such.

Impressions:

Well, it's certainly old Jump. Weirdly, there was definitely an attempt to update the art style and character designs despite the random callbacks (eg the 90s OP as the ringtone), but it only seems to have made it as far as the early 2000s. Which is still a major improvement from the original manga where all these 6th graders have cleavage, which is only scratching the surface of the questionable things about the manga, but why not go all the way. Especially with the 90s fashion, but smart phones and tablets awkwardly crowbarred in, it all feels weird anachronic.

But if I'm rambling about that kind of stuff, that at least means that the rest didn't commit any major sins that stick out in my mind. But like Clevatess, I don't think it did anything all that well either. The monster of the week in the kid with behavior issues wasn't all that interesting because it was just… kid has behavioral issues because he has a monster snake in him. And that was the sum total of the investigation too. No twists nor turns. No surprise reveals. The kid felt bad about his outbursts too, so he didn't have any kind of real growth or change either, so there wasn't any nice climax to the episode. Just a monster hand ripping up a worm. At least the cliffhanger was better and did make me feel like the next episode would be immediately interesting, which is already more than Clevatess, so I guess I should get to it.
