Your Forma #01 — Endless Meetings

April 2nd, 2025

Please go out and interview some suspects or witnesses at least.

Final new show for the day… I think. It's Saturday and Sunday that are going to be marathons this season. Hopefully the damn site will be functional by then.

Impressions:

I'll alway appreciate seeing anything that isn't more cheat power or kicked from the party, but that alone does not mean it will hold my interest. This is definitely trying to be a procedural, but as someone who watched entirely too much Law and Order, or at least had it on in the background and absorbed Sam Waterston's voice into my pscyhe, like many anime attempts at it, this misses the point and the entire fun and engaging parts of procedurals and mysteries. We just go from one room to the next to listen to talking heads reciting the facts of the case. We don't talk to witnesses who are inexplicably stacking things and making quips about the Mets. We don't confront possible suspects and learn new facts that slowly come together or are red herrings to mislead us. This is stuff even Phoenix Wright knows is important for telling a story. It's just… talking heads. At a meeting table.

Eventually, they do finally reach the show's gimmick, that the lady can cyberpunk cyberdive into people's cybermemories, but despite that being the opening tease for some other completely random dude, she just kinda gets to see that it's one of the many, many identically faced robo-dudes, hears her whisper a name, and then it's over, the transition having taken more time than the actual memory-replay. So if that's the unique selling point and hook of the show, it wasn't well showcased and they didn't do much of anything with it, or the entire cyberpunk setting for that matter. It was just a really boring episode, which is what happens when your characters do virtually nothing but listen patiently to debriefings for twenty straight minutes. Not offensive or done to absolute death like other things today, but not a well told or compelling story here either.
