Once Upon a Witch’s Death #02 — Harassing the Dead

April 8th, 2025

And dying. And animals.

Impressions:

I'm still rolling my eyes at the characters and stories here, so this may be as far as I go. They're lacking substance and already formulaic. She meets someone who's sort of sad about something, casts a spell, and then they cry. I'm not looking for Hamlet or major twists and turns. But more than "girl exists and casts deus ex spell". Or screams at animals. Or keeps calling attention to its dumb premise and announcing that a week's passed and she couldn't be bothered to even think about any of this.

And especially that Meg herself doesn't grow, change, or is affected by any of it at all. She's already perfect and flawless, a paragon of youth and energy and goodwill, beloved by all for her spunk and charm. The Maryest of Sues who can sit with a dying lady without an ounce of discomfort or a second thought to her own mortality. Or how she dragged a family there just to watch their mother/grandmother die in front of them. Kind of feel like they should probably be asking "If you could see she was about to die while she was in seemingly perfect health, why didn't you do anything?" But we're in idyllic fantasy land, where there's no ugliness about anything or anybody, so everything is incredibly superficial.
