Lazarus #03 — Hobo Upholstery

April 19th, 2025

I wish my furniture was that resilient.

Ah, so this shows up on some Indonesian service on Saturday mornings with a Japanese dub and various Indonesian subs. …All right. Works for me. Maybe there is a Saturday morning show, though it is a bit late.

Impressions:

Same general issues as the second episode. They mostly putter around on not actually really any kind of leads, some random thugs mistakenly attack them so that there's something to animate for a couple minutes, but then it's all cleared up and the hacker girl declares "Wait, no, for real, next week the plot will advance." I'm skeptical. I suppose it's the closest thing to an actual procedural. You other mystery shows take notes. They actually go places and talk to different colorful people. That said, they're not really following any actual leads nor does anybody know anything useful, so it's less following the thread of the case and more just… hanging out with the locals.

Speaking of which, I'm far from an expert on homeless camps, but that was one disturbingly well-organized and not to mention clean camp full of unhoused people. I'm pretty sure that most camps aren't just a house with slightly more chaotic shelving and fewer doors. Even the couch sitting out in the middle of a lot with zero shelter looked pristine. What's their hobo secret to that kind of amazing upholstery? Yes, that was the burning question in my mind going through this episode. At least the 90 or so seconds of chase and martial arts continues to actually be animated. Maybe by episode 8 we'll be able to graduate to something other than a completely random multi-national gang of ruffians mistaking the protagonists for someone else.
