Memento Yuri #10 — The Clone Saga
March 6th, 2025
…Ya'll gonna do anything, or just stand around?
Impressions:
I dunno. My first thought/hope when they revealed an entire array of clones was that the characters we know who have alien powers are the alien clones would be the twist, but even that was on thin ground when they spat out that there were zillions of their own clones hanging around. Then we instead got sucked into Renge's flashback which just revealed that she had met up with Yuri's friend a little before and got her weapon from her, which I guess Yuri never saw fit to mention and her friend just accidentally brainjacked her and messed up her head. So I guess we are just sticking with the most obvious and no existential crisis, but why is everybody even up and about then instead of in the capsules? They're not going to resist, or question anything, or really… do much of anything.
I think at its core, that's what made this episode feel kind of dumb. There's the big clone reveal and then… nothing. They just sit and do jokey bits and exposition like they're trying to tie up loose ends without actually advancing anything. Well, that and the like seven straight minutes at the end of talking up how they're totally going to hack the system, they just need friendship power. Okay, now we've hacked it, but we'll need to friendship power a little more. Okay, now we've stared long enough, it's time to… end the episode with a next episode preview that is advertising all exposition again. Don't get me too excited, guys.
