Aquarion MOE #07 — Behold My Evil Egg
February 20th, 2025
I miss the attempted stabbing.
Impressions:
With Momentary Lily actually putting out a good episode, it makes the holding pattern that this show continues to be in all the worse. Granted, it's not quite back down to the levels of like episodes 1-4, but we definitely lost something by going from a stab-happy lunatic to just hanging out with doomsday prophecy dudes and then getting angsty over killing giant invading tentacle aliens. Beats just standing around, wondering what the deal is with the dead girl who keeps showing up, but not by a lot.
It's not like the characters or plot have started going anywhere either. The evil Touma wannabe has an entire greenhouse of unconscious zombified kids that he's 'awakened' or whatever, people in the streets are trying to murder him with improvised objects, he has a weird metal egg that summons monsters, and the protagonist's response to all this is to… stare blankly, mostly. Oops. Now I'm in the nightmare zone, better continue to stare. Can't have anybody try to actually do anything, after all. Maybe after another five forehead touches to travel into the 70s CGI zone, somebody will actually develop any kind of desire to do anything.
