I’m a Behemoth #01 — The Ur Show of 2025

December 28th, 2024

Can we please leave this fad behind.

Oh hey, I'm alive. Yeah, yeah. I know that the season preview isn't up yet. It's done aside from the sprites and editing, so it should be up tomorrow. Nothing else starts airing until the 30th and the vast majority of things premiere after the 5th. This just has web broadcasts on Abema and Amazon a week earlier than the regular broadcasts. It takes an extra week to fog out the nipples.

Impressions:

And to be clear, this is just one of around seventeen shows next season with a descriptive paragraph as the title. The full title being "I'm a Behemoth, an S-Rank Monster, But I Was Mistaken for a Cat So I'm the Knight/Pet of an Elf Girl." It's also one of the mere eleven shows about having cheat powers, and one of twelve shows about being reincarnated. There is not perfect overlap between these, so it's… going to be a rough season. Yes, I am avoiding discussing this episode. For good reason. It is all the tired tropes of the current anime landscape. Dude is reincarnated, but is effortlessly the strongest thing in existence and has the power to have as many powers as he wants. Status screens are constantly being summoned up to announce how strong he is in lieu of spending any effort on the animation or script. Immediately stumbles on giant-chested demihuman slave girl in a bikini and saves her from a rapist, showing that he's one of the good ones, respectfully leering at and enjoying her cleavage. We even have the okama stereotype hanging around in fetish gear to threaten to counter-rape the rapist. What joy.

I think nadir of the episode was not any of the times he was perched in her cleavage, or floating in the bath, staring at her nipples, but the climax of the episode, where he reveals that he has super powers. It first had a minute straight of internal dialogue of him being so very, very conflicted about doing that because it would reveal that he's not just a cat. Then another minute of him lamenting that he has done it and there will now be consequences. Then everybody goes "Oh, that must mean he's a MAGIC cat." And it is all dropped. By everybody. Literally the entire mob. If this was a joke, this is not how you tell a joke, and I must stress that this was literally the only attempt at humor in the entire episode, unless you count an okama guy existing. Which kind of sums up the whole thing. Whatever you're looking for here, action, story, comedy, even just fanservice, there is less of it than there are popup status screens.
