Suicide Squad in Xanth #06 — Oops, All Mind Control
July 18th, 2024
How many mind control people did they put on Team A anyway?
Impressions:
I guess the first third wasn't too bad, and I think that I'd rather continue with this than try to switch instead to Kite Man which begins today, because I really really dislike Kite Man and the pre-air reviews seem to indicate that the series goes all in on him and Bane, who I've already soured on, but maybe I'll get bored enough to look at it regardless. Aaaaanyway, yeah. We move right on to our new antagonists, and I'm not even sure I could say who they are. Killer Croc, obvious. I assume Enchantress was the green magic one, and no idea on the other as there are a zillion mind control flavors of minor DC villains, and shockingly, this one didn't immediately announce his name fourteen times. I assume it's Thinker, but I'm not about to check the credits.
Unfortunately, the script and characterization problems continue apace. We literally just finished fighting a dude who mind controlled an army of wolf men. Now we're up against a dude mind controlling an army of elves and everybody's right back to "THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE! HOW CAN THEY ALL ACT AS ONE!?" My guys. A little object permanence, please. And then everybody gets shot, but magically… didn't. And all decided to pass out anyway? Including Clayface, who's apparently vulnerable to bullets now. Since when? Not to mention Harley falling into a weeping mess because… she's a woman, and that's what women do? Ain't the whole schtick being psychotic? Since when does she care about these idiots? Or some random orcs she was trying to kill previously? Also, why'd they let themselves be tossed in jail again? And then they needed a pep talk and sad story because they were sad? The Suicide Squad needed a pep talk and sad story to be motivated? Come on. Fix your damn script, already.

So,we start to suspect Clayface is a spy, because that “neckbomb” means nothing to him,or wait in case that plothole is used later?
