Boy, what a show about biking this is.

Impressions:

This has a lot in common with the royal crow show, of all things. It's way too many characters, all female with names slapped on them at random in hopes of anybody remembering them, sitting around in a room, most without a thought in their heads, speaking incomprehensibly about something I couldn't care any less about, with a long aside to be fanservicey as hell. Sure, the details differ. Instead of having overly elaborate costumes, they get naked and just stew in a bath, they're younger, and they're pissing around about biking instead of courtly politics, but that's just the wallpaper. And I do mean pissing around. The amount of biking, or even being a fan of biking, is scant. After the opening 45 seconds or so of cheering it on, that's pretty much it.

Now, I would hardly say I'd want it to actually be about biking. I'd much rather a solid comedy or drama with the sport/hobby as a motivating factor, ala Ted Lasso, Major League, uh… Mr. Baseball. But it's a weird decision to pick a very fringe sport, rewrite the universe to make it the most popular sport ever, and then refuse to engage with the sport at all in the episode. Girls sitting in a bath, talking about how they want to try hard at things is not a story driven show, and it's absolutely 100% not even trying for comedy in any way. I want to say that it's like the whole thing was written first, and they looked for the sport to tack on with bad CGI at the very last second, but that would imply that I think any effort went into writing the script. It's pretty damn close to empty filler. For a first episode. Couldn't they at least fight a kaiju with their bikes or something?
