Bartender #01 — How to Stab Your Hand
April 3rd, 2024
Holy sweet Zeus. Please stop. You're making me wince.
Impressions:
Yes, I am going to harp on about this because they kept showing it and it made me want to scream every time. I am well aware that 'high class' bars will use a pick to shave ice down to specific shapes, generally to more or less fill a glass, often as a sphere, but you don't do it by palming a chunk of ice and then violently stabbing straight towards the palm with a pick with an overhand hammer grip. You shave the ice on the edges, away from your hand, so when it invariably slips, being ice, the extremely sharp object doesn't go straight through your flesh. Or better yet, you use something built more like a trident instead of a shiv by putting it on a cutting board. The same reason you don't put meat on a skewer by holding it in your palm and then stabbing through. Every time it decided to show this, which as you can tell from the screenshots, was disturbingly frequent, I wanted to scream about how wrong this 'realistic' show about bartending was getting basic OSHA procedures.
That's also a good way to not talk about the content of the episode, of which there was little. The 'funniest' part was the opening segment where they were auditioning bartenders, but it was actually an excuse to scream at them for perceived slights. You just GAVE me what I ordered!? You didn't ask me about my day, or if I had eaten in the last thirty minutes!? You don't know off the top of your head how to make every single obscure drink imaginable!? YOU DARE CALL YOURSELF A BARTENDER!? Get these failures out of my sight! But the protagonist? His cocktail transports you to a magical world. Which just shows that he naturally knows the essence of customer service. Or perhaps it's LSD?
