The Mismatched Witches #01 — Girls Make Faces

October 1st, 2023

Loudly. And with plenty of boobing.

Impressions:

I was past ready to be done with this episode 15 minutes in when it attempted to make a mountain out of "pets are a lot of responsibility." This is a throwaway line that everybody has heard said a hundred billion times before about literally every thing involving a dog, cat, hamster, guinea pig, or US Senator you wanted to purchase with gold bars. And yet, all the sad music kicks in, the saturation fills the screen, and immediate acceptance of that becomes the supposedly heartwarming moment of the episode. Did they just pick a random moment since the episode was nearly over? But then why five minutes from the end of it?

I'd dig into it more, but it was something of a respite from its very poor attempts at humor, which were largely along the same vein. Every 15 seconds or so, one of them would make a face, possibly with yelling. With punchlines like "If you get a boyfriend, I'll kill him," or "I want a familiar that shoots lasers." At best, they're weak non sequiturs, but after the first time, not even that, and no joke can be done without being repeated a further three or four times. How many times is "You can't keep a phoenix" going to be the punchline? A lot. I don't think I can make it through the second episode.
