Tearmoon Kingdom #01 — Won’t Somebody Have Pity On Poor Billionaires?

October 7th, 2023

Let's actually kill some villainesses for once.

Impressions:

I don't understand why Japan, or Britain for that matter, keep making all these shows lamenting how spoiled rich jackasses are made to face the consequences of damning us all. Frankly, there should probably be more shows celebrating leading the corrupt nobility to the guillotine. Or at least taxed into only being able to afford seven yachts. But once again, we have one of these essentially villainess reincarnation things, where she supposedly learns her lesson after being executed and sent back in time, but in reality, has just amassed a friends and enemies list based on who was kind and cruel to her, and now that she's being nice to the right people, isn't she just the most precocious? No.

Perhaps if it actually presenting her as still trying to be some kind of corrupt Machiavellian ass, out to cement her privaleged life in the lap of power and luxury, it'd be a little easier to swallow, but that is absolutely not the attitude here. Won't somebody take pity on the plight of this poor girl? Sure she's a little spoiled, but that's our princess who we love and adore! These attempted emotional scenes about how dedicated her servants are to her, or how cruel the guards are to her fall flat and are based on just "is a teenage girl." A monstrous teenage girl who probably doesn't deserve death, sure, but you can't jump from the entire kingdom wanting her dead for driving it to ruin and then bounce back to how adorable her tantrums are.
