Shy #02 — Sad Girls on Fire

Everybody's parents must burn!

Impressions:

I really wish the animation here was just a bit better, or that it was a little more action focused. The director is certainly trying with the budget they've got, but every time it goes to a still or speedline… It could be just so much better with a little more emphasis on the heroics. Or even the corruption for that matter. Could've built up the creeping dread after she got ring'd instead of having her instantly go full Persona shadow person and spammed purple Cthulhu filters right from the start. That would've also helped the script out.

And it was a genuinely good script this week for both characters. Not the most creative one. Very much a Persona kind of arc with the whole unlocking the heart and letting all the bottled up resentment pour out. Against mostly herself for the survivor's guilt, but also for the tragedies in her life where nobody saved her and she was left to deal with death, solitude, and pain on her own. They absolutely could've done a whole fight between the two over the latter part especially before the inevitable friendship hug disarmament. The two things about it that I wish they handled just a little better was the whole "You just need to ask for help" remark that the whole thing turned on, and the flashback to Shy's own family deaths out of basically nowhere could've been worked in better, or at least probably a little more lightly touched.

I already had that impression on first episode, but this one confirmed my suspicious, this is not a super hero show, its a mahou shoujo show
